used auto repair records
how to interpret a gap period in VIN record for a used car ?

I am looking to buy a used car.
The following is from the VIN record of that car.
Any guesses on what might have happened to this car in that gap period ?

8/25/1999 Kingston, NH motor vehicle dept. registration event/renewal
3/08/2005 Somerville, MA motor vehicle dept. registration event/renewal

The current owner bought this car from an auto repair shop in 2005.
Do you think this car got into a serious accident in 1999 and rebuilt but didn’t get sold until 2005 ?
By the way, VIN record didn’t indicate any accidents.

Probably.

The gap means the car was never registered during that period. SO the car obviously sat for almost 6 years without being driven.

Why it sat is a matter of speculation. It could have been mechanical or it could have been in an accident.
