Are you considering replacing your siding? Do you need some guidance on what to choose for siding replacement in the Seattle area we can help?

There are 3 common types of material for use by Seattle siding contractors.

1) Wood Siding the most common wood used here is cedar it is an excellent material and has been on homes in our area for over a hundred year. The advantages of cedar siding is it has a lot of oil ingrained in the fibers and that helps repel the rain we get here.It is also a very beautiful material when stained and left in its natural state.

The problem with cedar and most wood siding is that due to drying and rotting it will require a lot of maintenance and it is very expensive. The going price is about $6 a square foot plus painting costs in the Seattle area. Most home owners that do research find wood to be too expensive and too much work to maintain.

2) Vinyl Siding was very popular in some neighborhoods about ten years ago. Vinyl siding is a good durable product that requires little maintenance. You cannot paint it so choose your color carefully. I feel bad for some of those folks that need to sell a home with pink vinyl siding on it. Vinyl will look good for 20-30 years and it is very difficult to match so please keep some extra vinyl siding panels for future repairs.

One thing vinyl is excellent for is adding insulation to a home with some very innovative conforming foam insulation built right into the panel. Vinyl siding costs about $4 a square foot in our area based on being installed on a replacement siding job.

3) Fiber cement or the most common brand name is Hardiplank siding. This product is made of wood fiber mixed with cement and it is a very attractive and durable product. The advantages of fiber cement over vinyl are that it is paintable and it looks very similar to wood. Hardiplank siding is very stable and will not dry out and be destroyed by the elements like most wood siding. It is the most durable and it can be painted and it probably the best value.

Paint covers this material well and in my opinion it adds more value to a home than wood or vinyl because of its durability. The costs for hardiplank siding will run about $5 a square foot but that includes tear off of you existing siding.

I do siding replacement in Seattle Bellevue Shoreline Redmond Kirkland and Issaquah. We have installed close to 1000 homes with Hardieplank with excellent results. There are other materials such as metal and stucco but they are not commonly used in the Pacific Northwest for residential home. 206-953-4006.
