Auto Repair Windows Installer
A virus had taken over may PC?
One PC was handed to me for repair because a nasty virus had taken over it’s system files. Because it now loads itself in startup. It’s properties was to close explorer windows or folders once it finds any executable files in it. This Pc had not had any antivirus installed in it. Because you cannot work on a window, i cannot open the antivirus installer therefore. My flash drive got infected too when I tried opening it to another pc but Avast antivirus identified it as brontok something.
Now I need at least a way to stop the windows from auto closing. How can I do this?
This virus still runs even in safe mode…. gosh…. i don’t want to format drive too
What you might need to do is do a Google search for a program called Barts PE (Preinstalled Environment) Basically what Barts is, is a version of Windows that installs itself onto a CD. In other words you boot into Windows off the CD rather than your hard disk.
When you go to the Barts website you download a CD cretion wizard. When you run the wizard it walks you step by step through the creation of an ISO image that you will later burn to a blank CD. You will need your Windows CD handy because the wizard needs to copy some files off of it to create the bootable disk. The basic Barts disk will give you limited tools such as a file browser and a registry editor but there are many “snap ins” that you can install such as anti virus scanner, web browser, CD burner, etc.
Once the CD image is created simply burn it to a blank CD and you will have a bootable CD which you can use to boot up your broken PC. Once your system is booted up from the CD ROM drive you will have access to all the files, folders etc of your C drive and you’ll be able to do a virus scan of your C: drive.
I realize that this sounds like a lot of work but it is definitely easier than reinstalling the OS and all of your applications.
Good luck,
