Auto Repair Questions Brakes
I believe I have bad brakes.?
I drive a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo and I believe the rotors are completely going out. When I try to brake the whole car shakes violently. It usually only happens while we’re coming down a hill, but it’s now happening when I simply brake at a stop light.
My question is, where is a good place to get them serviced? Is Meineke any good? Or should I just go to a private auto repair shop?
Shops have a legal obligation when it comes to brakes, if they machine the rotors to make them true they have to stay above legal thickness. Machining will take the shake away, if it is your first brake job should be no problem, if they have been machined before and they machine them again they may still be above legal thickness but just barely and they will warp quicker than before due to the lack of metal to dissipate heat. if you have rear drum brakes be sure they are check and adjusted , that will help the front brakes from doing all the work
