Should the U.S.A. Adopt the Metric System ???
The metric system seems to be preferred in mathematics and science. Why not adopt it? Why should the rest of the world buy American autos and equipment, if they need to buy an extra set of tools to repair them? Is America’s outdated system of weights and measure hampering it’s global trade?
First of all, you seem to know little of the manufacturing of machine items being done in this country, as almost all machinery items made for shipment to Europe and the Asian markets, are indeed made with the metric system of measurements, not the American SAE dimensions.
Second, you question about why should they have to buy extra tools to use our products ,well, my previous statement explained away that question, but now, by the same reasoning, why should we have to buy the extra sets to work on the foreign products being sent to this country? which is the present case.
As far as changing over to their system, bull, it seems we cannot educate the people here now to use the present system, how do you propose to educate them in an entirely new system. Regardless of what some say, there is not any difference in accuracy between metric and our present system.
America’s system is not outdated, maybe in your mind but not really. Like I said, just as accurate as the rest. If we desired to follow the rest of the world, we would no longer be independent, but followers.
