Auto Repair Diy Advice

ectrical repairs?
Just purchased 9/14. Left turn signal works but right one won’t also trunk auto close inop. Looks and runs great even with minor rust and these hair pulling electrical problems. Like to keep her if I could and get her back to top notch condition. Just can’t be saddled with thousands of dollars worth of electrical repair costs. So I’m asking for some good advice for diy projects from those that have already been there. Thanks

Hi
Like Dodgeman says you will need a good manual. One thing on your side though with this particular car. During those years, Caddillac used a process called point to point wiring. What this means is unlike a number of cars now that have a main wiring trunk which carries signals for multiple systems, caddy wires are point to point meaning that the end device is hardwired to the power source. On your signals, do the signal on the dash come on, are or your comments only talking about the outside light? The best way to approach ( based upon my exp with caddys) is to chase down where the electricity should be flowing in that circuit. For instance in your case
1 Does the dash light come on? yes / no
If yes, proceed to the flasher
If no you mat have a switch problem in the steering column
2 Does the flasher click? yes / no
yes flasher is good no flasher is inop
3 Does the side market cornering light come on? yes no
If yes this means current is flowing to at least that light
If no, check wiring leading to that light
4 Repeat Q3 but for the flashing signal light
In summary it will be a step by step process for diagnosis. Believe or not, this improved the techs ability to diagnose a problem, you just have to ask youself questions in the process
