Ask Free Auto Repair Questions
Am I a closet racist? Hear me out…?
Sorry, I fooled you. I have an entirely different question in mind. Please, stay and listen while I ask it.
Can the following scenario ever happen, and still be acceptable within the Amish community?
A mechanically inclined young Amish male, after completing extensive courses in automotive repair, plans to open an auto repair shop a little outside his community. He is committed to his beliefs and will abstain from the use of machines to make life easier, except for the use of basic auto tools for his profession.
Please feel free to explain your answer of why or why not, or everyone will laugh at you.
Thanks!
To the answerer that asked if I had seen the movie SexDrive…This is funny. I haven’t seen the movie, but while watching the preview the afore mentioned scenerio was inspired.
I would guess it probably would be acceptable, although you must keep in mind that each Amish community is autonomous and has its own distinct rules.
The Amish are not afraid of technology. They just find that many types of technology encourage sin such as greed and pride or break down community bonds (such as a telephones, which mean that people do not have to meet face to face)
I’m not quite sure, however, how an Amish man would end up with the skills necessary to make this question realistic.
