Auto Repair Ann Arbor Mi
I have an “Electric Ride” moped scooter that will charge and the wheels will spin but it can’t hold any weight
I’ve narrowed it down to something being wrong with the motor but I don’t know how/if I should fix it. I’m assuing I need to replace the brushes. Should I take it to an alterantor/ auto repair shop or would that be very exspensive? Where could I get new brushes? Does anyone know how to replace brushes or take apart a motor? Any good websites? Could something else be the problem? I live in MI near Ann Arbor, are there any scooter/ repair shops near me?
sounds to me like your battery is shot, ittl produce the voltage but not the amperage to move anyone. try taking the battery to yer local autozone and having it tested for it’s ampacity. dont confuse that for voltage, it’s obviously delivering the right voltage. also, check your cables running from the battery to the motor and replace any that look like they’re about to break and clean all connections. last thing you need to do is crack the motor open, most of the time average joe cant get the motor back together again. also, you might want to check the speed controllers, they may have built-in circiut breakers that pop whenever you need to draw the amps to move any kind of a load(IE, you), yet can still carry the amps needed to spin the tire. i dont think it’s your motor if it spins the tire itself and doesnt make the fingernails-on-chalkboard grinding noise. you may also have bad grounds, which manifest themselves like a dead battery. check all places where wires attach to the frame, and make sure all connections are tight.
