Auto Repair Quotes New Car
Should I reapair or replace my Subaru?
I have a 99 Subaru Legacy Sedan with a 2.2 liter engine that has 108,000 miles on it. Recently some blue smoke began coming out the exhaust when starting cold. My mechanic said he found a used 2.2 with 71,000 miles on it and could get the engine and install it for $3200. I told him I didn’t feel comfortable spending that much on a car with so many miles. The vehicle has had numerous other mechanical problems, though it looks clean. Does anyone have any comments on the quote for the used engine or have any ideas how to get some money out of the vehicle to put towards a newer commuter car? Trade-in ? Auto auction? Less expensive repair alternative? Thanks.
First of all 108,000 miles is not alot on the Subaru 2.2 engine. The car is worth fixing but get a second opinion. Has the car been maintained properly? Why the blue smoke. Second get a second opinion the 2.2 litre 4 cylinder are best engine Subaru has come out with. I have seen them with 275,000+ miles on them (original engine). What other problems does the car have. Again take it for a second opinion. I have a ’93 with 133,000 miles on it(so far, so good). I would take it to a Subaru dealer for a full and proper diagnosis. Check the value at kbb.com
