Comments (0) Reasoning with mechanic shops?
Ive noticed from experiance that when you call an auto repair shop and ask what they would charge to do a specific job it seems that 7times out of ten they evade the question and tell you to just bring the car in, i have a pretty good idea why they do this but i don;t want to sound like a skeptic, how can one who knows little about cars avoid this and just get the answere to specific questions or a price quotes for example. I guess what im asking is what are some good ways to just get your answere?
First of all when you call the shop , they cannot fully diagnose the vehicle with what your saying . Thats why they tell you to bring it in . So they can fully diagnose the issue and repair it .
Also as a mechanic ill tell you , after going to school , and years to get good at what i do , the last thing I wanna do is give free info over the phone . If you call me and i can diagnose over the phone i may have helped you , but as a mechanic i need to get paid for my skill . Just like a Dr. wont tell you whats wrong with you over the phone theyll always tell you to come into the office .
This is an honest answer from an honest mechanic , im speaking for myself , other mechanics may be differnt .
